The WSET Level 3 in Wine Online Course is an advanced-level, online program for the serious wine student. In this structured, yet flexible online course, you will deeply investigate the world’s major wine categories and develop a comprehensive understanding of the role of growing conditions, viticultural practices, and winemaking decisions in a wine’s resulting style and quality.

Course registration formally closes 9 days before the course start date.

For this 9-week course, students should plan to allocate at least 10 hours per week to their studies to stay on track with the learning objectives and course assignments.
As the learning is self-paced, you will work through the course on your own schedule within those 9 weeks. At the completion of the course, you will continue to have access to the course’s static content for 1 year from course start date.

Yes, wine tasting is essential part of the course, both to sharpen your analytical tasting skills and to underscore theoretical content.
At the start of your course, your instructor will provide a flexible list of recommended wines to taste as part of your studies.
You will also have the opportunity to participate in a one-day advanced tasting workshop. Workshops are offered in both Portland and Seattle/Woodinville and for convenience are often scheduled for the day before a Level 3 Exam.

Although not required, completing WSET Level 2 in Wine before enrolling in WSET Level 3 in Wine is very highly recommended.
Studying WSET Level 3 in Wine online is a high level endeavor and is best suited to students with a very strong base of wine knowledge and who are self-motivated learners. If you love to study wine and are up for a challenge, this course is for you.

The WSET Level 3 in Wine Exam is taken in-person at one of our Oregon- or Washington-based exam sites.
The WSET Level 3 in Wine Exam includes two parts:
Tasting exam – 30 minute exam blind tasting 2 wines (one white and one red) using the WSET Systematic Approach to Tasting.
Theory exam – Two hour exam consisting of 50-multiple choice questions and 4 short answer questions.
A score of 55% or higher is required to achieve a Pass. A scored of 65% or higher is a Pass with Merit and a score of 80% or higher is a Pass with Distinction.
