The WSET Level 3 Award in Sake exam is designed to test both your theoretical understanding and your ability to apply it in a structured, professional way.
The theory portion combines multiple-choice questions with short written answers, requiring you to explain key concepts like production methods, style, quality, and factors that influence flavor. It’s not just recall—you’re expected to think critically and communicate clearly.
The tasting exam is equally important. Using the WSET Systematic Approach to Tasting (SAT), you’ll assess two sakes.
A score of 55% or higher is required to achieve a Pass. Students who score a 65% to 79% are awarded a Pass with Merit and students who score an 80% or higher are awarded a Pass with Distinction.
This exam is taken on the final day of class. In order to be successful, it’s essential you begin your studies at least 1 month in advance.
