  • In this interactive, one-day course, you’ll explore essential beer components, brewing methods, and the impact of ingredients such as malt, hops, and yeast. Essentials of storage, service, and pairing are also explored. All learning is underscored by instructor-led tasting of classic beer styles.

  • The WSET Level 1 in Beer Online Course is ideal for the beer student seeking foundational beer knowledge on a flexible schedule.

  • The WSET Level 1 in Beer Course is organized into 6 learning modules released over 4 weeks. Learning is on your schedule – login in anytime and work through the course at your convenience. Your learning is supported by a WSET Online Tutor for the 4 week course, but after that time, you have access to the static content for one year.

  • Your course workbook, An Introduction to Beer, is available for download once your course starts. Tuition also includes your exam fee, WSET Level 1 in Beer Certificate, and Badge.

  • You’ll gain a strong foundation in beer and understanding of how beer ingredients, brewing, storage/service, and pairing, all impact what we find in the glass. This 4-week course introduces students to key beer concepts including: how to taste and evaluate beer, essential beer ingredients, brewing techniques and impacts, styles, storage, and service.

  • It is recommended that you taste beer as you work through this course, but beer samples are not included. A list of recommended beer styles will be provided by your tutor at the start of your course. 

  • The closed book, 45-minute exam includes 30 multiple-choice questions. Exams are taken online under exam conditions and must be ordered at least 2 weeks before the scheduled exam date (exam sign up link provided at registration). Exams are offered the 1st Sunday of every month or by appointment).

    Students who score 70% or higher will be WSET Level 1 in Beer Certified.
