D6 independent research
The WSET Diploma D6 Unit is an opportunity to deeply investigate a topic of current significance in the wine industry. Students must demonstrate their knowledge –citing relevant source material – while developing a convincing and compelling argument from a unique point of view.

Before writing your D6 assignment, you must first study and test for D1 and D2.

Two available research topics are released each August: one for January submission and the other for July submission. The topics are typically of current relevance in the wine industry with recent topics focused on things such as Orange Wine, PIWIs, and Regenerative Viticulture.

Papers are submitted to Wine and Drinks Academy in one of three ways: by hand, by courier, or by email.
In order to run electronic checks for collusion and plagiarism, papers must also be submitted electronically to WSET.

There are two submission dates every year: January and July.
