D3 Wines of the World

The WSET Level 4 D3 Wines of the World unit provides a comprehensive study of still wines from the world’s key wine-producing regions, including France, Germany, Austria, Hungary, Greece, Italy, Spain, Portugal, the USA, Canada, Chile, Argentina, South Africa, Australia, New Zealand, and China. Students build a structured, comparative understanding of how climate, grape growing, winemaking, and regional influences shape style and quality across Europe, the Americas, Africa, Australasia, and Asia.

  • Before studying D3, you must first study and test for D1 and D2.

  • The D3 Wines of the World course is the most comprehensive unit in the WSET Diploma and typically requires a minimum of six months of study. Our D3 program pairs two intensive, tasting-focused in-person Diploma Days weekends with robust online learning support, including recorded lectures, structured critical thinking activities, and practice exams with examiner-level feedback. This blended approach is designed to deepen understanding, strengthen analytical skills, and support strong exam performance and success.

  • The exam is comprised of two parts – Theory and Tasting – offered over two days

    • Day 1: Theory

      11:00am to 1:00pm
      3 essay questions (selected from 4 question options)

      2:00pm to 3:20pm
      2 essay questions (selected from 3 question options)

    • Day 2: Tasting

      10:30am to 12:00pm
      Q1: Grape Variety flight of 3 wines
      Q2: Country flight of 3 wines

      1:00pm to 2:30pm
      Q3: Region flight of 3 wines
      Q4: Mixed bag flight of 3 wines

  • The D3 Course is offered once per year.
