Wine Scholar Guild Courses offer an in-depth and expansive exploration of France’s most iconic wines. Dive into France’s best vineyards, learn about the country’s historic grapes, and discover how these wines intertwine with the history, cuisine, and culture of France.

Courses are offered at two levels: French Wine Essentials and French Wine Scholar.

  • FRENCH WINE SCHOLAR

    FRENCH WINE ESSENTIALS
    Dates: November 14/15, 2026; 10am to 4pm
    Location: The Wine & Spirit Archive, 3319 SE 50th Ave, Portland, OR
    Registration deadline: Early registration recommended. Course materials shipped at registration.

  • French Wine Essentials: This intermediate level course is ideal for students ready to dive beyond the basics into the nuances of French wine. Completion of WSET Level 2 in Wine, a similar knowledge level, and/or a willingness to study before class is recommended.  

    French Wine Scholar: This advanced level course is geared toward students ready for dedicated study. Completion of WSET Level 3 in Wine and an eagerness to learn deeply is ideal.

  • French Wine Essentials includes 2 interactive and engaging learning days guided by an expert wine educator.

    French Wine Scholar is held on weekday evenings, allowing for study and review between sessions.

  • Of course! All learning is underscored by instructor-led tasting of iconic French wines.

  • In addition to in-person class sessions and tastings, your tuition includes your course textbook; interactive, online learning resources; and exam fees (if you choose to test at the end of your course).

  • French Wine Essentials: The certification exam is comprised of 50-multiple choice questions and is taken at then of day 2 of your course. The exam is optional and approximately 50% of students elect to take the exam. If you plan to test, you must register a month in advance so you can receive your textbook and online access with sufficient time to study and prepare.

    French Wine Scholar: The certification exam is comprised of 100-multiple choice questions.
